Residential Projects
Thompson Residence, Channel Islands Harbor
This three-bedroom waterfront residence is an interpretation of the American Shingle Style. It was constructed for a professional couple and their teenage son. The master bedroom opens onto a waterfront balcony that shades the patio doors from the dining room. The living room and kitchen also share channel views. Passive solar principles are incorporated along with natural ventilation and non-toxic materials selected for durability and low maintenance.
Ellinwood Residence, Okemos, MI
This home was for the architect's parents. The 3,000-square-foot house includes an artist studio, all with views of the Red Cedar River on the wooded site.
This living area has an office, a kitchen, and a dining area on the upper level. See the stair to the second floor; perhaps the art has been hung by now. The area features slate floors, a cedar ceiling, and koa veneer paneling.
Casa Marina Townhomes, Oxnard, CA
This workforce market-rate housing is within walking distance of shopping, schools, public transit, a central business district, and an industrial park. This 95-unit project has a ring of 3-story townhouses around three stories of stacked flats over semi-subterranean parking. Amenities include a community room adjacent to the pool and a grassy picnic barbeque area. The elevator/clock tower provides handicapped access to adaptable flats.
Crystal Shores Townhomes, 30 units of 3 bedrooms with attached garages in Port Hueneme, CA
Hoagland Residence, Ventura, CA
This addition and remodel was constructed on top of an existing lower floor that opened to ground level on the south side of this steep hillside lot. Windows provide sweeping views of the distant Pacific and warm the natural slate floors for passive solar heat. High windows in the office loft are open to provide natural ventilation on hot days.
